Our Work
In response to community needs, our work is currently focused on five core priorities:
Housing stabilization and preventing displacement
Community Cupboard/Bodegita food program
Disaster Case Management/Community Care
Building community through caring relationships
Advocacy and partnerships to support community initiatives for affordable housing, food access, and disaster recovery that prioritizes meeting basic human needs.
We do this by:
Providing direct financial assistance to community members to support unhoused people in accessing emergency shelter, establish stable housing for people displaced by Helene, pay for basic needs like utilities and transportation, and prevent evictions due to the economic impact of the storm.
Providing Community Care/ Disaster Case Management to community members who are navigating the ongoing trauma of disaster recovery. Trained staff support families and individuals with FEMA navigation, housing counselling, resources and support.
Welcoming all community members to a cozy, accessible, trauma-informed Community Center open 5 days a week staffed by kind and caring professional staff who connect community members with resources and support.
Stocking and sharing free food and household supplies in our Community Cupboard/Bodegita, including a free pantry, refrigerators, and freezers.
Partnering with organizations and individuals that share our goals of preventing displacement and gentrification, expanding affordable housing options, and supporting Swannanoa Valley community members in rebuilding our shared home and our lives together.
